Undecylenic Acid 10%

The history. Undecylenic acid has been used in pharmaceutical antifungal preparations since the mid-20th century. Derived from castor oil, it was one of the first clinically recognised treatments for fungal skin conditions and remains an FDA-recognised antifungal active. It has been the pharmaceutical standard for superficial fungal infections — athlete's foot, ringworm, skin fold candidiasis — for over seventy years.

The science. Its mechanism is well-documented. Undecylenic acid disrupts the cell membrane of Candida yeast, prevents Candida from transforming from its harmless form into its invasive hyphal form, and controls the odour-producing bacterial overgrowth that accompanies skin fold rash. At 10% concentration — the clinical standard — it penetrates the fold and works at the cellular level.
